StarSense Explorer 150 Tabletop Dobsonian — 6 Inches of Power, Zero Setup Headache | Sky Deep Co
Six inches of aperture. A parabolic mirror that gathers 460 times more light than your naked eye. And it all sits on a table. The Celestron StarSense Explorer 150 Tabletop Dobsonian is the largest tabletop Dobsonian in Celestron's entire lineup — and Sky Deep Co brings it straight to your door anywhere in Pakistan.
No tripod to assemble. No alignment stars to memorize. No star charts to squint at in the dark. Just place it on a flat surface, dock your phone, and within a few minutes you are looking at real craters on the Moon.
Six Inches of Light-Gathering Power in a Compact Body
The aperture on this telescope is 150mm — that is 5.9 inches, or roughly 6 inches of pure light-gathering mirror. Aperture is the single most important number in any telescope. It decides how much light enters the tube. More light means brighter images, fainter objects, and sharper detail across everything you look at.
This telescope collects 460 times more light than your unaided eye. That is a massive jump from what your eyes can do on their own. Stars that are completely invisible without a telescope snap into sharp bright points. Faint galaxies that take weeks of practice to find manually appear quickly once you know where to look.
The focal length is 750mm at a fast f/5 focal ratio. This gives you a genuinely wide field of view. With the included 25mm eyepiece you get 30x magnification. With the 10mm eyepiece you get 75x magnification. And because the f/5 ratio is fast, images are bright and detailed even at these magnifications. If you are looking at Dobsonian Telescopes in general, you will notice that most full-size 6-inch Dobsonians are much taller and heavier. This tabletop version gives you the same aperture in a fraction of the size. Browse our full Celestron range if you want to compare other models before deciding.
A Parabolic Mirror — Not the Cheap Alternative
Most beginner telescopes at lower price points use a spherical mirror. A spherical mirror is easier and cheaper to manufacture but introduces optical distortion called spherical aberration. This makes stars look slightly bloated and blurry, especially toward the edges of the eyepiece.
The StarSense Explorer 150 Tabletop Dobsonian uses a parabolic primary mirror. A parabolic shape focuses every incoming light ray to one exact focal point. The result is pin-sharp stars from the center of the eyepiece all the way to the edge. Planetary detail is crisp and clear. Deep-sky objects show structure and texture that spherical mirrors simply cannot resolve at this price point.
This is the same mirror geometry used in professional observatories — scaled down and made accessible for everyday stargazers. If you want to understand more about how mirror quality affects your views, visit our Astro Knowledge Hub where we explain this in plain language. You can also check out our Beginner Level Telescopes page to compare how this model stands against smaller options.
StarSense Technology — Your Personal Sky Guide
The StarSense Explorer app does something no other beginner telescope app does. It uses your smartphone's camera to photograph real star patterns in the sky above you. It matches those patterns to its internal database using the same Lost in Space Algorithm that satellites use to orient themselves in orbit. Then it tells you exactly where your telescope is pointing — in real time, with no compass errors, no gyroscope drift, and no guessing.
You pick an object from the app's list of what is visible tonight. You follow on-screen arrows. When the bullseye on your screen turns green, you look through the eyepiece. Your target is centered and ready to view. That is the entire process. Most people find their first object in under 3 minutes on their very first night.
The app works on both iOS and Android. It is completely free to download. It generates a fresh list of visible objects every night based on your exact location and the current time. Whether you are in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta, or anywhere in between, the app adjusts to your sky automatically.
What You Will Actually See Through StarSense Explorer 150 Tabletop Dobsonian
The Moon is the first thing most people look at. Through 150mm of aperture the detail is extraordinary. Mountain ranges, deep crater interiors, the razor-sharp terminator line where sunlight meets shadow — you feel like you are flying over the lunar surface.
Saturn's rings are unmistakably clear. Even from a light-polluted Pakistani city you can see the gap between the rings and the planet's disc. Jupiter shows all four Galilean moons lined up beside it, plus cloud bands across the planet's surface and the Great Red Spot on favorable nights.
From dark skies outside the city the 150mm aperture truly shines. The Orion Nebula shows the Trapezium cluster with crisp stellar resolution. The Andromeda Galaxy appears with a visible core and extended halo. Globular clusters like M13 start to resolve individual stars around their edges. Dozens of galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters come into view that a smaller aperture simply misses.
Even from city rooftops in Lahore or Karachi, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mars, the Moon, open star clusters, and bright double stars are consistently excellent on any clear night.
Tabletop Design — Portable Enough to Go Everywhere
The tabletop Dobsonian base is one of the simplest and most reliable mount designs ever made. A wooden rocker box pivots smoothly in two directions — up-down and left-right — on Teflon bearings. You move the telescope with one finger and it holds its position perfectly when you let go. There is no motor, no battery, no alignment procedure for the mount itself.
The whole package sits on any flat stable surface. A rooftop wall, a garden table, a car bonnet, a folding camping table — anything works. You do not need a field or a yard. Pakistani city dwellers use this on apartment rooftops every week.
The telescope has built-in carry handles and a compact footprint. You can lift the whole thing with one hand and carry it to your observing spot in under a minute. Setup from bag to first object takes less than five minutes total.
Everything in the Box
The package includes the StarSense Explorer 150mm Tabletop Dobsonian optical tube with parabolic primary mirror, a 25mm Kellner eyepiece for wide-field views at 30x magnification, a 10mm Kellner eyepiece for closer views at 75x magnification, the StarSense smartphone dock, a StarPointer red dot finderscope, a 1.25-inch rack-and-pinion focuser, dust covers for the tube and focuser, and a collimation cap. The StarSense Explorer app is free on iOS and Android. Your own smartphone goes into the dock.

FAQs
How is the 150mm different from the 130mm version and which one should I buy?
The 150mm has a 20mm larger aperture than the 130mm. That sounds small but it means roughly 33% more light-gathering area. In practical terms, the 150mm shows fainter deep-sky objects more clearly, resolves more detail in globular clusters, and gives you brighter images at higher magnifications. The 130mm is lighter and slightly more portable. If your main interest is planets and casual viewing, the 130mm is excellent. If you want to push into serious deep-sky observation and you do not mind the extra size, the 150mm is the better long-term investment. Our team at Sky Deep Co can help you choose — just book a free consultation.
Does a tabletop telescope need a special surface to work properly?
Any stable flat surface at a comfortable viewing height works perfectly. A garden table, a rooftop ledge, a folding camping table, or even a sturdy plastic storage box all work well. The key is stability — if the surface wobbles, your view wobbles. Most Sky Deep Co customers in Pakistan use a simple folding table they carry alongside the telescope. Celestron also offers an optional tripod stand for this model if you prefer standing height without a table. Our team can advise you on the best setup for your situation.
Is collimation difficult on this telescope and do I need to do it often?
Collimation means aligning the mirrors inside the telescope so they focus light correctly. The 150mm at f/5 is slightly more sensitive to collimation than a slower focal ratio telescope. But it is not difficult. The included collimation cap makes it easy to check alignment visually. Most users collimate this telescope in under 5 minutes once they learn the process. Sky Deep Co's Astro Knowledge Hub has beginner-friendly guides on this exact topic. And if you ever need help, our team is just one message away.
Can I use this telescope for astrophotography?
This telescope is primarily a visual instrument. The tabletop Dobsonian mount has no motorized tracking, which means objects drift out of frame during long exposures. For basic smartphone photography through the eyepiece — called afocal photography — you can get nice shots of the Moon and planets with some practice. For serious deep-sky astrophotography you would want a tracking mount. Sky Deep Co carries a full range of GoTo Computerized Mounts when you are ready to take that step.
